Perched high up in Mount Lebanon, lies Ras el Maten, 'the top of the mountain' and one of the most picturesque villages in the area. The town is flanked by rivers on both sides and by several valleys including the well know Lamartine Valley, named after the French poet who described it in his writings.

The town is known for its relics and archeological sites, its moderate weather, organic food market, and remarkable vintage points for viewing birds, butterflies and stars at night. The village is also well known for eco-tourism as campers can set their tents in a specified forest area.

Hikers can reach the village after a two-hour hike at the Roman trail where they can also get to see and learn about most of the historical sites in town, walking through the beautiful pine forests of the Lamartine trail and engaging with the local community’s cultural practices and heritage.

The village offers other trails of various difficulty levels to suit all kinds of groups. In summer, people from Ras el Maten who live in Beirut escape the summer heat of the capital and spend the season in the village.

Village environmental activists are working on establishing an eco-lodge to host visitors with healthy, organic food from the produce of Ras el Maten.
